There’s a fair amount planned for NMT in the coming year. This will be the place to read about what we’re working on and, perhaps more interestingly, the thought processes and ideas behind it all. But before all of that, here’s a little background about how we got where we are now…
In October 2012 myself, Tom Nicholas, and Exeter-based playwright Emily Holyoake got together to put on a production of her play April. And so New Model Theatre hatched.
We were lucky enough to work with two fantastic actors Alice Chalk and Nick Havergal in realising the play and I think it’s fair to say that it was pretty successful. Two sold out shows in our very own ‘Pop-Up Theatre’ at the Coffee Cellar, Exeter were followed by a pretty-close-but-not-quite-a-sell-out show at the Bike Shed Theatre, also in Exeter, as part of their From Devon With Love festival of local theatre curated by the Bike Shed’s development programme Framework.
And now work continues on new show Static which I’m lucky enough to be working on with long time collaborator and friend Hugh McCann. It’s a play about growing up through the twenty first century, about our obsession with instant information, and about learning to take action. The Barbican Theatre in Plymouth have decided to let us loose on their stage for a Work in Progress performance on 1st March which will be a brilliant opportunity for us to get some feedback on the show.
